WHAT IS SOCD?

Whenever the Up and Down or Left and Right movement buttons are pressed at the same time on a controller, Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions (SOCD) occurs. When this happens, there are 3 ways a controller or game can resolve this:

  • Both Directions

    are registered

  • Neither Direction

    is registered

  • One Direction

    is registered

THE BENEFITS OF SOCD CLEANING

With the Razer Kitsune’s 2.0 firmware update, you now have the option of choosing how the controller resolves simultaneous opposing inputs, which provides two benefits:

  • Cleaner Execution

The controller prioritizes key inputs during SOCD, which eliminates the issue of weird input resolutions made by a game’s design considerations.

  • Tournament-Legal Design

To be legally used in tournament play, most competitions require controllers to have SOCD Cleaning as a standardized way to prevent unfair advantages.

FAQS

  • Where is the joystick on the Razer Kitsune?

Unlike traditional arcade controllers, there is no joystick or lever on the Razer Kitsune. It is a leverless-style controller that uses 4 buttons for movement inputs. As this layout is gaining popularity amongst the fighting game community, we seek to give pro and casual players a cutting-edge advantage with the Razer Kitsune’s release.

  • What are the benefits of using buttons for movement inputs?

While there are several benefits, the main reason is that the 4 movement buttons on the Razer Kitsune allow for faster, more efficient execution with a lower degree of human error, as inputs are performed with simple button presses. With standard 8-way joysticks, shifting the stick too much or not enough could result in accidental or missed inputs, which affects your in-game performance.

  • What does the lock switch on the Razer Kitsune do?

It disables the buttons along the top edge of the controller, which includes the menu/pause button. This feature is important for tournament play, as accidentally pausing the game can cause you to forfeit the round based on tournament rules.

  • Why does the Razer Kitsune have a lock for the cable?

It has a lock to prevent the cable from disconnecting. This feature is important for tournament play, as accidental disconnects can result in the game being paused, causing you to forfeit the round based on tournament rules.

  • Why is the Razer Kitsune so thin and compact?

It is designed for you to easily take the controller anywhere, from pro events to local tournaments, to casual play at your friend’s house.

  • Can you change the SOCD Cleaning for the Razer Kitsune?

Yes, with the new 2.0 firmware update you will be able to adjust the SOCD Cleaning from 4 available modes.

  • Is the Razer Kitsune compatible with PS4?

No, but the Razer Kitsune can be used to play PS4 games running on a PS5.

  • Are the Razer Kitsune SF6 Chun-Li/Cammy Edition skins removable?

Yes, they are pre-applied skins. Removing these skins will reveal the original matte black finish of the Razer Kitsune. Please note that the skins cannot be reapplied after being removed.

  • What connector does the Razer Kitsune use?

It uses a USB Type‑C cable.
